Respiration
Glycolysis, link reaction, Krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorylation. The ATP topic where students lose marks by writing “energy is produced” instead of the exact sequence. We focus on reduced NAD/FAD, electron transport, proton gradients, ATP synthase and oxygen as the final electron acceptor.
Photosynthesis
Light-dependent reaction, photolysis, reduced NADP, ATP and the Calvin cycle. The topic where students must connect biochemistry with limiting factors and graphs. We focus on the exact pathway from light absorption to triose phosphate production, with examiner-level wording.
Nervous Coordination
Action potentials, synapses, neurotransmitters and the refractory period. The ion movement topic where one wrong word can cost the mark. We focus on sodium and potassium channels, depolarisation, repolarisation and synaptic transmission in the correct sequence.
Kidneys & Osmoregulation
Ultrafiltration, selective reabsorption, the loop of Henle and ADH. The homeostasis topic where students must link nephron structure to water potential control. We focus on counter-current flow, osmoreceptors, negative feedback and how to write kidney answers precisely.
Inheritance & Hardy-Weinberg
Genetic crosses, inheritance patterns, chi-squared and Hardy-Weinberg calculations. The maths-heavy genetics topic where layout and method marks matter. We focus on probability, allele frequency, clear working and recognising patterns before applying the equations.
